Music Biography (Long Version)-
As a Guitarist, Barry has over 25+ years of experience playing the instrument, performing from local and school bands in multiple cities across the West, Music Industry Conventions with Classical Quartets, to teaching both in-person and online always with a consistent focus and joy of the instrument. He graduated from the Las Vegas Academy for the Performing Arts and Languages (‘04) in downtown Las Vegas, NV under the tutelage of Bill Swick who is responsible for leading guitar music education in a number of public schools in multiple Vegas districts that simply did not offer music beyond the choir ensemble. At LVA, he was given multiple opportunities to perform locally (such as the Las Vegas Renaissance Faire) and win multiple Superior Ratings at Nevada State Solo and Ensemble Festivals in both Classical and Jazz studies taking many Blue Ribbons home. At this time Barry was diving deep into both Rock and Blues styles as well. These early years in Las Vegas gave Barry the professional approach to music in both study and practice living in a world class entertainment city.
Barry would then take his studies to 2 years in Jazz study at the University of Las Vegas Nevada learning under Joe Lano, the guitarist famous both for his tutalage at UNLV and decades long position for Jerry Lewis’s Telethons. Later attending Musician’s Institute in Hollywood, CA for performance, learning from additional guitar Masters such as Daniel Gilbert, Dave Weiner (Steve Vai Band) and Alex Machacek (FAT, Planet X, Virgil Donati Band). At M.I., Barry learned from a wide variety of working musicians in the heart of the music industry, pushing forward his approach to contemporary styles to further round out different approaches to the instrument.
Moving closer to family, Barry had moved to the Houston area to start a new venture, a change of pace to and take his playing to the next level with improv groups and teaching professionally. For the past 7 years until mid 2025, Barry has been teaching at the CyFair School for Music and Arts (Living Magazine’s Best of Music Studio/Lessons in CyFair ‘23 and ‘24 Reader’s Choice), both in-person and online. Here he taught all Guitar students, lead Summer Instruction classes and student Recitals until the pandemic, learning to teach online, leading to start his own personal goals to start his own journey as a private instructor.
Now, he is teaching privately to a students of all ages and cultures weekly. From finger style, folk and classical guitar, improvisational jazz to rocking old school to modern metal, Barry is happy to dive into music that can bring others the joy of playing. To add to his approach, through all of these years Barry has learned a multitude of skills maintaining his and others instruments. He has added these services since finding many students whose instruments needed to be setup, adjusted to play well so the student can further enjoy the act of playing. He is also currently working on a debut Solo album and performing in the working bands both Alt Duet Daisy Chain HTX and the Paramore Tribute band Paraless (available for many kinds of events in Houston and adjacent areas).
