About Lessons with Barry -
Weekly guitar lessons are structured, goal-oriented sessions designed to build technique, repertoire, and musical understanding steadily over time. I want you to have fun, learn and be able to use what is covered in our time together. Whether you aim to play with others, by yourself or improve current skills. Guitar is my dream and I love to share everything I have learned!
Lessons Format -
Duration: 30 -, 45- or 60-minute options to fit differing goals and schedules.
Frequency: Weekly lessons recommended to maintain momentum and steady progress. Bi-Monthly option available.
Structure: Warm-up, technique work, repertoire study, theory/integration, and practice assignments.
Customization: Curriculum tailored to student age, musical interests, skill level, and short- and long-term goals.
What you’ll work On -
Technique: Picking and fretting hand coordination, alternate picking, fingerstyle patterns, barre chords, scales, arpeggios, speed and accuracy exercises, right- and left-hand independence.
Repertoire: Songs chosen to apply technique and theory in context. Styles available include rock, blues, country, folk, pop, jazz, and classical.
Music reading and notation: Standard notation, TAB reading, and chord charts as appropriate.
Music theory: Practical theory—scales, chord construction, progressions, keys, modes, and how to use them in improvisation and songwriting.
Ear training: Interval recognition, chord quality identification, and playing by ear.
Improvisation and soloing: Scale application, phrasing, motif development, and building solos over changes.
Rhythm and timing: Metronome use, strumming patterns, groove, and subdivision.

Tailored for those just starting out or those with a busy schedule but still want to dive in! Here I’ll give you what you need to get started playing songs, proper hand positions and helping you accomplish your goals for the instrument. Great choice for younger students as well!
Singer/Songwriter -
2x - 60min Lessons Monthly
These bi-monthly lessons are tailored for either the Songwriters/Slow Learners or those with just a hectic schedule. This gives you time to try out things learned, perform your music and see what works in practical application. Songwriters want to take their knowledge and play out to the crowd, I’m here to help.
Student of Guitar -
4x - 45min Lessons Monthly
For both established beginners to intermediate students. Consistency is important for growth in anything. This will give you time to dive into subject matter but avoid mistakes in technique for too long as most subjects will take a week to learn and another to put into practical use. This is not a race, we want to learn, have fun and build good habits simultaneously. Want more time to play during lessons, this is it!
Guitar Apprentice -
4x - 60min Lessons Monthly
Weekly lessons for the dedicated student that needs enough time each lesson to dive deep into the subject matter AND have enough time to put into play during our lesson with no rush. This time frame allows us to cover a variety of subjects. Want to learn more songs, techniques and have time to play, this is the slot for you!

I care about your progress, understand we are all human and my only goal is our mutual support of learning and playing the guitar. No corporation, no business methods for extras, just humans playing music.

Maintenance only. I do not do repairs necessarily and prefer to send you to a qualified technician for any serious repairs. Think anything that may involve gluing, cutting wood or a headstock break. I will replace hardware and nuts for necks but the rest is maintenance. There are always exceptions and we can discuss further via email/call.
